On April 2, Rutgers-Newark welcomed Dr. Randal Pinkett as he celebrated the release of his new book and announced the winners of the Newark's Most Promising Young Entrepreneur Contest.

The competition had invited students currently attending high school or college and alumni of Essex County as they submitted their mini-business plans for the chance to win a $5,000 monetary award for their start-up business and a personal consultation with Pinkett.

Pinkett announced Michael Amegashie, a NJIT junior, as winner of the Young Student Entrepreneur Award for his business, "University Storage." Tamara Mangum-Thomas, a Rutgers alumnus, received the Young Entrepreneur Award for her established business, "Sharpened Image, Inc."

Runner up Yvonna Wade, Newark Tech HS senior, and Quaison Carter, NJIT junior, both received a $1,500 monetary award and received a free copy of 'Young, Gifted & Entrepreneurs: Success Stories from the Prudential Young Entrepreneur Program' for her business, "House of Hope" and his business, "fetchFIRE."

As the winner of The Apprentice, Season 4 and chairman and CEO of BCT Partners, a multimillion-dollar consulting firm located here in Newark, Pinkett is now the acclaimed author of 'Campus CEO: The Student Entrepreneur's Guide to Launching a Multimillion Dollar Business.'

Although Pinkett radiates success, he explains that he worked very hard to get to his current position today. He recounted the days of when he was an undergraduate at Rutgers and began his business selling CD's from his dorm room.

"In school, I had a dream of starting my own business and I was inspired by Wayne Abbot, a good friend of mine, who was selling t-shirts on campus," said Pinkett. "My friends and I were so amazed by the passion that Wayne felt towards his business that we knew that we could also do the same even though we had nothing."

Having many positive influences while attending Rutgers, Pinkett was determined to make his college years count. After graduating from Rutgers, he moved on to top schools such as Oxford and MIT, where he accumulated four more degrees including an MBA and PhD from MIT. That's a total of five degrees!
