The Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) has recently released his first DVD to the public. After only four days, the initial batch sold out. But who is this Nerd? I'm not sure if everybody has heard of this madman, so let me introduce you to him.
The Angry Video Game Nerd is a character created by filmmaker James Rolfe. The Nerd wears glasses and a white shirt with pens in its pocket.
He plays bad video games from old consoles such as the NES and Atari. It's his thing, says the Nerd. But then he gets so frustrated playing them that it drives him to cartoon violence, make up new curse phrases and then drink some beer to make the pain go away.
The result is pure comedy.
But he's not just a vulgar character; he talks to the viewer with sincerity. And then he sincerely gets pissed.
But his anger is almost justified by the footage he shows, especially if you have personally played the particular game he's reviewing.
This first DVD from the AVGN contains all reviews up the end of 2006 and includes bonus features, which provide about four hours of content.
The difference between the DVDs and what's available online is the inclusion of bonus features, changes to some reviews due to copyright reasons and a higher resolution picture.
But before we go into all the goodies, let's start from first time you get the DVD in your hands.
You notice the front cover has some amateur art of the Nerd with some pixilated "Space Invaders" aliens flying around.
These extra old-school touches are a theme throughout the DVD. At the top it says, "He's gonna take you back to the past…" an excellent choice, since it is the first line of his introductory song.
If you are familiar with the song, reading it makes you anticipate the fun that's coming ahead.
The back shows some live pictures of the Nerd and lists the content of both discs.
Right away, something is confusing: the DVD is called Vol. 1, but the back says Volume One and Volume Two. So which is it: Vol. 1 or Vol. 1 & 2?

"He'd rather have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in his ear." Awesome.
